With the storm of two days ago, temps have dropped below freezing overnight in the high country. With no wood stove, it’s just movement and coffee to keep a guy warm.  I had to sleep in my Kryptek Dalibor II Jacket last night and probably will for the rest of this hunt (using a Sierra Designs Thinsulate lightweight sleeping bag which is usually enough this time of year.)

Left camp about 20 minutes before glassing light to see if any bucks showed up in the country I glassed last night.  I took the horses this time.  I never separate my horses when I’m this close to the buck country.   They’ll  just whinny all morning alerting bucks for miles.  I can’t count how many times I’ve seen hunters make this mistake, including myself in the early years.  Here’s a video wrap-up of the day:

By the way, for the techy amongst us, my new book, Hunting Big Mule Deer, was just RELEASED IN KINDLE VERSION!   With this version, ALL OF THE PHOTOS ARE FULL COLOR.  I have to say myself that they look fabulous.  You can sample the Kindle version below on your PC and see some of the photos.  Just click on the link below then click on the cover of the book and shazam, full color!  You can also purchase it from that link. Sorry, at this time there isn’t a package discount for those who purchased the book (thanks by the way!) but the Kindle is less than $10.

Here is the link:

Robby Denning
Robby Denning started hunting mule deer in the late 1970’s, only missing one season in 35 years. At 25, he gave up the pursuit of all other big-game to focus on taking the best bucks possible. He began hunting the West on a DIY budget hunting an average of 30 days a year for mule deer. Robby loves the hunt as much as the kill and the entire process from research to scouting to hunting. He’s killed four bucks over 200 inches in the last 15 seasons, mostly on easily-obtained tags. He owns a public-land scouting service and runs a private-land outfitting business helping other hunters in their pursuit of deer and elk. Robby has scouted and hunted literally thousands of square miles of mule deer country and brings a wealth of knowledge about these experiences with him. To him, the weapon of choice is just a means-to-an-end and will hunt with bow, rifle, or muzzleloader – whatever it takes to create an opportunity to take a great mule deer. He is also the author of "Hunting Big Mule Deer" available on Amazon. Robby believes all of creation is from God for man to manage, respect, and through which to know its Creator
