8:30  Been on him  since first lite  got video!  Waiting for him to bed

5:30, the day’s events:

That’s how 200″ bucks become 200″.  Other deer are so often the undoing of the best stalks.  As I tromp around in this wide-open country, I do have to wonder if it’s possible to get an arrow in a buck that lives in this stuff.  I question it daily but try to remind myself of when the LORD stood at the door of Abraham’s tent under the terebinth tree and asked “Is anything too hard for the LORD?”  (Genesis 18.)

I know if it’s God’s will, nothing can stop me.  If it’s not, then I just get to enjoy hunting the buck of a lifetime.  Either way is good with me.

Headed out to glass…

Robby Denning
Robby Denning started hunting mule deer in the late 1970’s, only missing one season in 35 years. At 25, he gave up the pursuit of all other big-game to focus on taking the best bucks possible. He began hunting the West on a DIY budget hunting an average of 30 days a year for mule deer. Robby loves the hunt as much as the kill and the entire process from research to scouting to hunting. He’s killed four bucks over 200 inches in the last 15 seasons, mostly on easily-obtained tags. He owns a public-land scouting service and runs a private-land outfitting business helping other hunters in their pursuit of deer and elk. Robby has scouted and hunted literally thousands of square miles of mule deer country and brings a wealth of knowledge about these experiences with him. To him, the weapon of choice is just a means-to-an-end and will hunt with bow, rifle, or muzzleloader – whatever it takes to create an opportunity to take a great mule deer. He is also the author of "Hunting Big Mule Deer" available on Amazon. Robby believes all of creation is from God for man to manage, respect, and through which to know its Creator

  1. I am looking forward to seeing the video you bible thumper. You are so right, with God as our pilot, we are never alone. While I was in Afghanistan, the guys wondered how I could be calm, I knew God was with me, and If God wanted to take me home, I was good with that. I was able to share some. Time alone with God in the wilderness is the best time. I’m still praying for you.

  2. Nice work man and stay with him!

Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Galatians 6:9

  3. Damn nice buck!! Thanks for letting us get a peak of that brute. The ultimate hunting shirt gave me a good laugh.

  4. Wow ! What a buck ! His little buddy would make my day much less Jalapeño. I know it’s getting serious now that the invisible shirt is out 🙂 . Good hunting.

  5. Great deer! Maybe Rokslide could find a tattoo artitst as a sponsor and could put a Krytek pattern on your invisible shirt:)

  6. Beautiful buck and I hope you get your chance to make it happen in the next couple days. Keep the spirits high, I know it’s tough to be so close and not have it go your way. The pursuit of big bucks is addicting and sometimes I think the opening to ABC’s Wide World Of Sports…..the thrill of victory…. and the agony of defeat is really appropriate for those of us chasing big mule deer!!!

  7. Great footage and DAMN that is a big dear.. Hope you get another opportunity at him. You have obviously put the time in.

  8. Awesome! Thanks Robby for sharing the hunt. I would also like to thank you for being a shining example for others. These days it seems so many people focus on only the kill and in doing so they miss the true satisfaction of what hunting is about. It took me a long time to realize that harvesting a buck is only a small part of the whole experience. May God bless you with a fufilling hunt! I have no doubt that if it is God’s will, you will be adding that buck to your already impressive sucess stories!

  9. Good stuff Robby! I’ve been awaiting the naturalist camo to appear! It seems to be opun us for yet another season! Always honored to be along for the ride, each day is a learning lesson. Have been and will be following closely sitting on the edge of my seat. Good luck brotha!

  10. brah, with that natural cammo, you would fit right into our hunting culture here in hawaii. keep on ole jalepeno, and still prayin you get that buggah down (and have somethin to take home n feed your family)!! Glory to The Most High!!

  11. Thanks for sharing your hunt with us Robby that is a stud of a buck and I got to say you pull the invisible shirt off with style.keep with it good things come to those that endure.
